Surplus and wanted items
Nothing from aircraft crash sites is
sold on this page. BAAC groups will not sell material from digs or
recoveries, but may offer surplus items for exchange with museums or
bona fide groups and individuals. Aircraft parts that have not come
from crash sites are sometimes sold to raise funds.

Airspeed Oxford Mk V project for sale
- email: baac3@couplandbell.com.
This
aircraft, EB518, was built by Airspeed
in 1942 and shipped to Canada, for the Commonwealth Air Training
Plan.
It flew with 35 Service Flying Training School, at RAF North
Battleford, from August
1943 and was used to train numerous Bomber Command pilots - this was a
British (RAF) unit, not Royal Canadian Air Force. The Mk V was
the
ultimate development of the Oxford, with Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp
engines. The Oxford was the RAF's standard multi-engine pilot
trainer
of WW2. It featured similar controls to the twin engine bombers
and
was deliberately difficult to fly, to give realistic training.
The
remains of two Oxfords were salvaged from the Canadian Prairies by the
Midland Waplane Museum and shipped to the UK in 1996. A Mk I will
be
retained and rebuilt, while the Mk V is available for £3,500 (the cost
of the shipping). M.A.R.G. is interested in serious offers and
may
part-exchange or consider restoration work in lieu. Interested
parties are asked to use the above email address promptly - this
project needs to be cleared to make space for the restoration of the Mk
I.
|
The
project includes most of the metal parts
for the aircraft, including the cockpit parts. Some parts are
missing, but relatively few and this is believed to be the best basis
for an Oxford rebuild available in Europe - and probably anywhere
else. The centre section is
intact, but the wing spars probably need replacement. New
woodwork is
required throughout. Drawings can be supplied with the project
and the
woodworking tends to be straightforward, as it was designed for
sub-contract to cabinet makers. The entire fuselage, wings and
tail are a birch ply and spruce or Douglas fir semi-monocoque
structure. Engines, propellers, instruments
and
perspex are not included.
Further help and co-operation with the rebuild can be provided, from
the Mk I
restoration programme.
